Will I ever need to make a new Certification of Trust?

Yes! The Certification of Trust provides a snapshot of the key terms of the Trust. If any of those details change, you may need to prepare a new Certification of Trust to reflect the updates. For example, if the Trustees change then you might need to create a new Certification of Trust containing the updated names of the Trustees.

A Certification of Trust will also need to be redone after the Trust becomes irrevocable, typically when the Settlors who create the Trust have passed away.

You might also encounter a third party who requests a Certification of Trust be prepared within the past year. Some banks will ask for a recent Certification of Trust rather than relying on one that was created years ago.
