How to Use a Financial Advisor Account to Assist Clients

Your clients need estate plans — and Trust & Will makes it easy for you to be the advisor who gets them there. With the Advisor Portal, you can refer clients, track their progress, and access completed plan details all in one place, so you can deliver a more holistic, differentiated planning experience.

What is Trust & Will for Advisors?

Trust & Will is the leading digital estate planning solution for financial advisors in the US, partnered with over 25,000 advisors and facilitating more than one million estate plans. By integrating estate planning into your practice, you can meet growing client expectations, retain assets under management, and grow your business through organic referrals — all while helping clients protect what matters most.

Do advisors receive compensation for referring clients?

No. Advisors do not receive direct compensation for referring clients. However, every advisor is able to offer clients a discount — at least 10% off retail pricing — as a meaningful value-add to their service offering.

How do I set up my Advisor account?

Visit trustandwill.com/advisors and create your account using your work email address. Setup takes about one minute and is completely free. Using your work email allows Trust & Will to automatically recognize any existing firm partnerships and apply the correct discounts and experience for your clients.

Can I have a team Advisor Portal?

Portals are designed around a single advisor's book of business. Each portal includes the option to add a "delegate user" who can help manage the account. In some cases, a firm may choose to share a single portal using a shared login, but the platform is built for individual advisors and their delegates — not as a multi-user team tool.

How do I refer clients?

There are two referral methods available in the Advisor Portal (you may see one or both, depending on your firm):

  • Copy Referral Link — Copy your unique referral link and paste it directly into an email to your client. When they click the link, they'll be guided through creating their estate plan and automatically added to your client Portal.
  • Add/Refer Client — Enter your client's email address directly in the portal. Trust & Will will send them a personalized referral invitation to get started, along with follow-up reminders if they haven't signed up right away.

Both methods bring clients to the same place — it simply determines whether the invitation comes from Trust & Will or from you directly.

How do I track client progress?

Once a client signs up, they'll appear in your Clients box in the Advisor Portal. From there, you can see where each client is in their planning process, click into their profile to view responses they've provided, and get a snapshot of their estimated net worth based on entered assets — giving you timely, actionable visibility into their journey.

How do I use the Estate Summary?

Once a client completes their estate plan and grants you access, an Estate Summary becomes available in their client profile. This high-level overview covers key decisions around assets, guardians, beneficiaries, distributions, healthcare directives, and more.

To view a client's Estate Summary:

  1. Log in to your Advisor Portal.
  2. Find the client in your Referred Clients section.
  3. Click View Details.
  4. Click Estate Summary.

Use the Estate Summary to stay engaged with clients, identify potential planning gaps, and guide conversations about signing and notarizing their completed documents.

How do I use the Estate Report?

The Estate Report is a detailed visualization of a client's completed estate plan, offering an in-depth look at succession, assets, distributions, and more. It's a powerful tool for facilitating client conversations — and for identifying assets that may present planning or management opportunities for your practice.

To view a client's Estate Report:

  1. Log in to your Advisor Portal.
  2. Find the client in your Referred Clients section.
  3. Click View Details.
  4. Click Download.

The Estate Report is especially valuable in annual review meetings to ensure the plan reflects any life or asset changes since it was last completed.

How do I download client documents?

Once a client's estate plan is complete and they've granted you access, you can download their documents directly from the portal to review together or assist with signing and notarization.

To download client documents:

  1. Log in to your Advisor Portal.
  2. Find the client in your Referred Clients section.
  3. Select Documents.
  4. Click Download All, or select an individual document to download it on its own.

What resources are available to me as an advisor?

The Advisor Portal includes a Resources tab with materials to help you educate clients and drive urgency around estate planning. This includes access to the Trust & Will Learn Center — featuring thousands of articles on estate planning concepts — as well as downloadable PDF resources like the Estate Plan Framework, one of the most-used tools among advisors for preparing clients before they begin.

How can I get support?

Through the Support tab in your Advisor Portal, you can schedule a one-on-one call with the Trust & Will Advisors Team or reach out via email with any questions, Monday through Friday. You can also contact the team directly at advisors@trustandwill.com or visit trustandwill.com/advisors for more information.

Important Note

The Trust & Will Advisor Portal is designed to complement your practice, not replace professional legal or financial counsel. Estate plans created through Trust & Will are best suited for clients with straightforward estates and should be part of a broader, holistic planning conversation. For clients with more complex needs, consulting a qualified estate planning attorney is recommended.

Your Firm’s Compliance team may not allow access to all features. For help with general questions or anything related to your Advisor account, feel free to reach out to our Advisor Support team at any time.
