A declined payment may result from incorrect card details, billing mismatches, insufficient funds, card restrictions, bank security blocks, or a non-US card. Verify your information, contact your bank for approval, and retry or use another payment method. If problems continue, contact Member Support with the error screenshot, attempt time, and checkout email (never send your full card number or CVC).
A declined payment can be frustrating, but it’s usually easy to resolve. Here’s what might be happening and what you can try.
Why was my card declined?
When a payment is declined, we only receive a general “declined” message, so we can’t see the exact reason. These are the most common causes:
- Incorrect card details: a typo in the card number, expiration date, or security code (CVC).
- Billing address mismatch: the billing address or ZIP code doesn’t match what your bank has on file.
- Insufficient funds: the account balance or credit limit is too low to cover the purchase.
- Expired or inactive card: the card is no longer active.
- Bank security block: your bank flagged the payment as unusual or suspicious. This can happen with a larger purchase or your first time paying online.
- Card restrictions: your card may not be enabled for online purchases, or your card issuer may limit certain types of transactions.
- Card issued outside the US: we can only accept payments from US-issued cards.
How do I fix a declined card?
- Re-enter your card number, expiration date, and CVC carefully.
- Check that your billing address and ZIP code match what your bank has on file. You can find this on your bank statement.
- Contact your bank or card issuer using the customer service phone number on the back of your card. They can see why the payment was declined and approve it.
- After your bank confirms, try your purchase again.
- If it still doesn’t go through, try a different card or payment method.
What should I tell my bank?
Let them know you were trying to make a purchase from Trust & Will and that it was declined. Your bank can tell you the exact reason and, in many cases, approve the payment right away.
